Sole design is something that has been ignored in many of today’s putters.
The default design today for putter soles is relatively flat, especially in the larger mallet-style putters. A flat sole, however, can have a detrimental affect on the putting stroke in a number of ways, such as the setup is fixed when the putter is soled at address as designed, the undulations in the green will affect the lie angle at address and the putter toe or heel will likely scuff the green as it approaches the ball just before impact.
