On greens that have grain, rely on the sharpness of the cut at the edge of the cup, rather than a local tale about a mountain peak or the ocean etc. The grain direction will run from the smooth edge of the cup to the rough edge.
Remember though, that to take the effect of the grain out of short putts don’t wish the ball into the hole or baby it, make sure the ball is rolling fast enough to hit the back wall of the cup.
